Nestled in the rural village of Huay Kayeng, 3 1/2 hours road North-West of Vientiane, within the province of Vientiane, district of Xanakham, this vibrant, underserved community is home to 568 individuals across 124 families. The educational facility caters more than 60 students ranging from pre-school age through grade 5, with the dedication of four committed teachers.
This new project delivered brand new classrooms, sustainable facilities, and essential educational resources to enhance the learning environment. The construction of the new school provided three spacious classrooms and an office for teachers/ school materials storage. The design also included sanitary washrooms, a reliable clean water supply, and electrical installations. This facility was designed to initially accommodate up to 75 students, attracting more families seeking quality education in a safe environment.
The local authorities, including the village and the District of Education, have shown tremendous support, acknowledging the significant need for this project as no other organizations have stepped forward. The community's commitment was palpable, with contributions of sand, gravel, wood, and some labor. Furthermore, a school maintenance committee was established to ensure the longevity and upkeep of the facilities, demonstrating a sustainable partnership between SKL and the Huay Kayeng community.
The Huay Kayeng Primary School now serves not only as an educational institution but also as a community hub, hosting various community activities. This initiative extended our successful strategy that has previously been implemented, emphasizing community involvement and sustainable building practices.
